Jonah Brian Thomasson was born in York County, South Carolina, to James and Nannie Bryan Thomasson. By 1910, Jonah was living and working in Kings Mountain, North Carolina. He was president of Elmer Lumber Company and a vice president of the Home Building and Loan Association. He was a prominent member of the Kiwanis club and an active Democrat. For much of his adult life he spent his winters in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Jonah was married to his wife, Agnes Kendrick Thomasson, for 50 years. The couple had no children.

Jonah Brian Thomasson passed away at the age of 76 from a heart attack.
